The frictional force exerted on a moving object by air.
The frictional force exerted on a moving object by air. Air resistance, also called drag, acts against the direction of movement. It is caused by collisions between the object’s surface and the surrounding air particles. Parachutes are designed to maximise the effects of air resistance, slowing the descent of a person or object in free-fall. The parachute's large cross-sectional surface area results in a greater frictional force, helping to provide a safe landing.
