A reaction in which two molecules join together while eliminating a smaller molecule, usually water.

A reaction in which two molecules join together while eliminating a smaller molecule, usually water. Many large biological molecules are formed by condensation reactions. Plants make starch, which they store for future energy needs, by joining together glucose molecules. Each time a glucose molecule is added to the chain, a water molecule is eliminated.
