Reproduction involving just one parent, without the mixing of genetic material with another individual.
Reproduction involving just one parent, without the mixing of genetic material with another individual. The resulting offspring are clones. It's the primary form of reproduction for single-celled organisms such as bacteria, which simply divide into identical copies. In plants, asexual reproduction occurs through the production of bulbs, side branches or runners. Asexual reproduction is less common in animals, with examples including starfish and sea anemones.
